Peacock are delighted to have collaborated on a new woodblock print with Paul Morrison. Paul Morrison is known for his use of modified appropriated images from botanical, cartoon, film, and art historical sources. Morrison collages and manipulates found images producing powerfully disquieting scenes that often reference landscape painting. Emphatic shifts in scale and pictorial language underscores the unsettling mood in his work which ranges from intimate paintings and prints to films and vast site-specific wall paintings. Sculpture is also an integral part of Morrison’s practice. Large format three-dimensional metal works emphasis the pictorial and appear to dematerialise as the viewer circles the work. The delicacy of the outlines often belies their overwhelming physical size and weight.
The new print has allowed us to utilise our laser cutter’s capacity to its maximum scale. The machine cuts the block precisely to the specifics provided. The collaboration flourished during our national lockdown, Paul’s artwork empowering the studio with a raison d’etre for continued production. The wood block endured a total of 30 hours under the laser, with additional carving by hand, in preparation for printing.
