Crucigrama (2022). After Miguel Benlloch, Crucigrama contra la guerra (ca. 1995), drawing, series Epigramas contra la guerra, 1990-2018.
Epigramas contra la guerra is a collection of concrete poems by Miguel Benlloch that playfully tackle the language and the words that stigmatise war zones and territories in conflict. Benlloch wants to bring attention to the pervasiveness of war, the global character of every modern conflict and their dependence on capitalist structures and imperialist legacies.
The blank crossword grid is filled by a multicoloured, private system of acronyms referring to geographical areas and words relating to conflict and warfare (‘Bosnia,’ ‘Mediterranean,’ ‘Chechnya,’ ‘frontier,’ ‘Somalia,’ ‘Ruanda’ etc). Inserting them in the grid reveals their intricate relation and proximity to one another, exposing how no single modern conflict happens in isolation.
