A painter and printmaker, Bob Batchelor was one of the founding members of Peacock Printmakers. A passionate gardener, many of his mature works portray the flowers in his garden, an amazing, chaotic space filled with colour. His fascination with the form and colour of flowers is a constant in his work, a well of inexhaustible inspiration. The vibrant, saturate colours of his screenprints are layered on the paper in thick, dense compositions, giving a decidedly painterly texture to the work. Flowers are a way to study shape and colour, and explore the most painterly and spontaneous possibilities within screenprinting.
The title of this work refers to the decorative strips of flowers in the blooming gardens of nearby Crathes Castle.
