Born in London in 1936, Harvey Daniels studied at the Willesden School of Art, then London University and Brighton College of Art. He went on to lectured at Brighton College of Art from 1963 to 1989 and sadly passed away in 2013.

Daniels’ art is described as having a ‘geometric feel’ where he aims for the work to have an emotional charge and poetry, even though it is non-figurative. To Daniels music is an important aspect of his art and the structure of the work is more important than the colour. He only uses about twenty or twenty-five motifs, which commonly include the square, circle and triangle. He worked in this geometric, non-figurative way for more than twenty-five years.

Since 1983, with Peacock, he has made over 60 different images and editions in lithography, etching, screen and - importantly - woodcuts. He described working with us in the 2009 publication 'Peacock 35 Years of Great Stuff!':
"I first worked at Peacock Printmakers in the early 1980s. I produced a portfolio of lithographs titled ‘Objects’ with Stuart Cordiner. I then made many screenprints with Arthur Watson who was the Director at this time. He suggested I use a router and plywood to make a coloured woodcut. Not yet convinced I made a print called ‘Cut wood’ which developed in an unexpected and original way. Arthur was right and he encouraged me to continue making woodcuts also to dye the prints to get the result I was aiming for.

My tally to date at Peacock Visual Arts exceeds 60 different editions. However it is the dyed woodcuts that are unique to the Peacock."

Daniels has exhibited both nationally and internationally, and regularly exhibited worldwide. His first solo show was held in New York in 1963 and Peacock hosted a retrospective of some of his work in 1999, during his lifetime he had over 56 solo exhibitions. Latterly he divided his time between Brighton and his studio home in Lezan, Le Gard, France, which he shared with wife, and fellow artist, Judy Stapleton. He remained an exhibiting member of The London Group throughout his life and was a founding member of the Printmakers Council.

His work is included in many prestigious public collections, including the Museum of Modern Art, New York and The Victoria & Albert Museum, London.
