Donald Urquhart RSA (elect) is recognised as one of the leading Scottish artists of his generation, originally hailing from rural Perthshire he studied Drawing & Painting at Edinburgh College of Art where he currently is the Programme Director for Art Space Nature. His work has been described as 'thought-provoking and profound' and has been shown nationally and internationally.

He has been involved in several major public projects including the collaborative project An Turas on Tiree, which was awarded the RIAS Best Building in Scotland award. His six ventilation towers above the extension at Eden Court Theatre in Inverness lay claim to being the largest public art project in the Highlands of Scotland. In more recent years his practice has focussed on making therapeutic healthcare environments and architecture and The Sanctuary at Edinburgh Royal Infirmary was awarded the Best Building for Public Use at the Scottish Design Awards.

In 1997 he was awarded the Friends of the RSA Artist’s Bursary. This enabled him to embark on a three month period of travel and research in Iceland in 1998. This trip became inspiration for 'The Icelandic Suite' a series of 5 collaborative large scale screenprints made with printmaker Ailsa McWilliam and commissioned by Peacock Visual Arts in 1999.
