To coincide with the opening of the Peacock founder’s exhibition at Aberdeen Art Gallery this December, we are delighted to release two new Legacy Posters by the artist Bob Bain whose magnificent linocut 'Northern Enlightenment' graces the show
The two new prints take details from a series of intricate linocuts Bob made at Peacock in the 1980’s. This image is an excerpt is taken from a print entitled "The Annunciation Near The Storr".
Bob very sadly passed away at the age of 40, leaving behind a small but extremely significant body of work that is keenly felt and admired to this day. Bob’s practice was testimony to his own determination to literally carve a personal narrative through the printed medium. In his own words, “through a more thorough understanding of Romanticism I was thrilled to recognise an attitude to life and creativity that was very much in line with what I had always believed and had unknowingly been trying to express. The emphasis on individuality, on the imagination, on first-hand experience of and emotional response to nature's moods and the way in which these could reflect the inner convictions, beliefs and contradictions of human nature was something I could identify with.”
Working with Bob’s estate we celebrate his legacy through these two new Legacy posters. It is our hope these works will also serve to introduce a new audience that is unfamiliar with Bob’s visionary linocuts. All income raised from print sales are reinvested directly into the making and presentation of art at Peacock, here in Aberdeen.
